A new future for Utterly Content:

We’ve been working on the Utterly Content Global Festival since 2020, and it’s now time for a change.
The format of a global, round the clock learning festival for content professionals came into being as a result of the covid pandemic. That format has served us and our community well for a few years, allowing us to offer one of the most generous and inclusive learning events in the content and UX industry.
We have always been determined to deliver an event that would:
Connect a global community of content professionals
Bring a truly international perspective to advancing content and UX work
Provide access for anyone who would benefit from our programme, irrespective of circumstances and financial means
Fairly compensate speakers for their time and input to the programme
Be financially sustainable for us, the company running it.
Many conferences compromise on many of these. We did not.
But we would be lying if we said that it hasn’t been difficult to make the financial case for continuing to deliver this event. An emphasis on offering vast numbers of scholarships (over 200 people in just two years benefited from this) and our introduction of the pay-what-you-can model, coupled with a lack of corporate sponsorship, has made it difficult to balance the books. Low take-up from the Asia-Pacific region has also made our vision for a truly global event a struggle.
And so we decided not to go ahead with the event initially planned for March 2025.
Creating a vision for the future
We want to continue delivering this event in alignment with our values and commitments outlined above. And so we’re going back to the drawing board to reimagine how we can achieve that in future years. We need to answer the following questions…
Do we still deliver an annual event or should it be smaller more focused events throughout the year?
Is the appeal of global community and learning from international voices a strong enough pull for our guests?
How do we make this event appealing enough for sponsors to wish to contribute?
Does the event need more of a niche focus such as content marketing, content operations, or content leadership?
What learning needs are currently not being met by other providers and therefore what gap can we fill?
How do we balance offering such a generous scholarship and inclusion programme while also ensuring we can be financially sustainable?

Introducing ContentEd+
We’ve been busy while we consider the future of Utterly Content. We have launched the ContentEd+ community, an online learning community for content, communications and marketing professionals working in, with and adjacent to the education sectors.
We offer a free membership option and institutional premium access for just £1,999 (+ VAT for UK organisations), giving significantly more member benefits and training opportunities for as many colleagues as they wish.
